On 30 October 2024, the round table “The Role of Humanities and Social Sciences in Curriculum” took place in the conference hall of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Carmel Gallagher, Clare McAuley, Neven Budak and Nikola Tomašegović spoke at the round table, and the discussion was moderated by Branimir Janković. The roundtable was organised as part of the project “Empowering Trainee History Teachers in Croatia and Northern Ireland”, which included a study visit by Carmel Gallagher, Head of Curriculum Reform in Northern Ireland, and Clare McAuley, Professor of History Education at the University of Ulster.
The study visit took place at the Department of History from 29-31 October 2024 and involved sharing experiences and expertise on the relevant teacher competency frameworks in Northern Ireland and Croatia, the role of history in the two education systems, initial history teacher education and the links between history teaching and civic education. Other experts from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences participated in the work of the study visit: Stela Letica and Dinka Čorkalo Biruški, as well as external experts: Nikica Torbica from D-Kolektiv, Helena Strugar from Lucijana Vranjanin Gymnasium and Melisa Forić Plasto from the University of Sarajevo.
The study visit was organised by Dea Marić and Snježana Koren and fully funded by the British Embassy in Zagreb.
